The Visitor Center of the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site was abuzz with activity Friday, December 7, 2007 as dozens of visitors and park friends celebrated the unveiling of a very special seasonal ornament, and the artist that created it - Stanton resident Pam Piatz.
The celebrated ornament - a depiction of the history, theme, and resources of the Knife River Indian Villages - is special not only because of its artistic beauty and the nationally significant history and resources that it represents, but also where it resides this Christmas season . . . on the official White House Christmas tree, located in the famed Blue Room. The 2007 White House tree represents America's national parks, memorials, seashores, historic sites and monuments.
The Friday night event allowed for visitors and well-wishers to visit with Pam, offer congratulations, and, for most, to view images of the "secret" ornament for the first time.
A display consisting of images of the Knife River ornament will be on display in the park's Visitor Center until December 31. To view other National Park Service ornaments that adorn this year's White House Christmas tree, visit:
