The Knife River Indian Heritage Foundation is a "Friends Group" that created the grass-root initiative to establish the Park Site at Stanton and now plans an expanded role to promote the historic site as an international tourism destination.
The Foundation owns property adjacent to the Knife River National Historic Site which has been named the 7 Trails Trading Post and is currently being updated to host cultural and educational programs as well as trade activities.
The 7 Trails Trading Post is in close proximity to Fort McKay which historically was the 1st trading post in North Dakota. Explore the History of the 7-Trails, a historical research project sponsored by the Knife River Indian Heritage Foundation.
Local Artist Creates Ornament
The Visitor Center of the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site was abuzz with activity Friday, December 7, 2007 as dozens of visitors and park friends celebrated the unveiling of a very special seasonal ornament, and the artist that created it - Stanton resident Pam Piatz.
The Friday night event allowed for visitors and well-wishers to visit with Pam, offer congratulations, and, for most, to view images of the "secret" ornament for the first time.
